I’m all y’all’s FemmeFairyGodmother, of course, but I also have godchildren in real life.
My sister and her husband asked me to be the godmother to their two children – who are now 12 and 15. I am also the person who is named in their will to care for the rugrats should something happen to both sister and brother in law. My sister is one of my very best friends, my loudest cheerleader and, quite possibly, my biggest fan. I hope never to actually be the legal guardian of her munchkins because that would mean that I wouldn’t have *her.*
Last night, I added 6 more children to the list. Okay, well, two of them are old enough to be on their own (one is partnered with her own child and one is married, a Marine, also has a baby) and one isn’t born yet. The other three are younger than 6.
My friends J and T are adopting the three youngest and are writing wills and all that. They asked me if I would be the named legal guardian. Given that I have loved J since she was a teenager and T is now my favorite daughter in law, of course, I didn’t even have to think about it. Add to that how much I love their babies and it was an even easier decision. Of course, as soon as I stopped crying, I said, “Yes.” Of course I said yes.
Of course, I did mention that that had better not both die until after I’m married or I’ll be single for the rest of my life. *grin* The children are adorable and I fully love them but, like my sons, they are badass kids. Bebe’s kids, for those of you who remember that movie from the 80s. Now that I think about it – I’m the perfect choice to be these munchkins’ godmama. I think well-behaved is highly overrated. Smart, inquisitive (and thus naughty) children are FAR more interesting and fun! (PS for those of you who are about to protest that I think so because I don’t have any such children, um. I did. I speak from experience here.)
If you could see me now, you’d see the happiest of smiles on my face. I haven’t got permission yet from J & T to put pictures of them or their children on my website but once I do (assuming I do), I’ll post pictures.

Awesome!
I think you’d be a fun godmother to have. Congrats on your guardianship & godmomhood, though I hope the former doesn’t have to be called on.

Yay you! It speaks volumes about the quality of your character and the wonderfulness of *you* that so many feel comfortable to know that their children would be loved and cared for by you if they, for some reason, couldn’t. And wasn’t I just saying last night that I trusted you over my ex to stay with my son if I need to travel? Darlin’, you really just need to pack up, move here, and we’ll rent a house together.
