Saturday night I went out with friends. I had such a good time! I have no idea why I don’t go out more often.
My friends A, K and AJ and I went to a women’s bar (I don’t think it can be properly called a club, honestly) in Lansing, MI. I didn’t have high hopes given that most of the time when I go out around here there are more men and, for some reason, that means house/techno/crappy music. Honestly? I hate it so much that it makes me *mad* when I walk in some place and I hear it. Isn’t that crazy?
I danced most of the night. I talked and laughed and flirted and carried on in general.
I laughed on Sunday when I went to A and K’s house for something. She was slow to open the door and I asked if she’d fallen asleep. She said, “No, I’m hung the fuck over.” Wow, really? That’s what she gets for teasing me about being younger than me. I had as much to drink as she did (7 – yes SEVEN – shots of Patron over the course of the night and 2 other drinks) and I’m 12 years older than she is and *I* did not have a hangover. *grin*
What music makes you happy to hear in a bar/club? What annoys the bejesus out of you? Or are you a nondancer?

I love the club music with videos that the bars are showing now. I find the more I dance, the more I can drink too.
What annoys me is not so much the music but the crowds and when a place becomes wall to wall people with no where to walk.
Good for you on the no hangover.

I’m with you on the house/techno crap…can’t stand it! Anything else is fine.
I never used to be a dancer but in the last year or so I’ve been trying. Personally, I think I flop around like an untrained seal but I’m having fun and apparently the chicks dig it!!
I might even break the celibacy vow…

Oh doll, you know I LOVE me some dancin’! I’m not a huge fan of techno either~at least not house mixes and mash ups. I enjoy all kinds of music, probably why I love Blu with it’s Latin/Top 40/hip-hop stuff. It’s hard to get women to dance to techno and the guys take over the floor. Geez, makes me want to go out and shake my ghetto booty. I miss going out.

I loooooves me some dancin’, but I was frustrated when Em and I recently went to a queer bar/club because all they played was frenetic house/electronica/techno stuff which was really not danceable at all unless you wanted to flail around like a monkey on acid. I don’t mind that music if I’m in a certain mood, but dammit, if I’m in the mood to dance, put on some hip hop or some of the more upbeat alternative stuff, or even some reggae or Latin-inspired music. BEP, Michael Franti, some of Daft Punk’s stuff, Bowie, Rihanna or for a darker feel, KMFDM, Amon Tobin, Puscifer, Abney Park. Something I can get a real GROOVE going to, instead of just randomly shaking ass and limbs.

The only kinda dancing I absolutely can’t stand is contra-dancing. I’ve been only once in my life, but that was plenty.

I am cracking up at some of the responses! You need to come down to NOLA and hang out. Missy and I love some Patron, and dancing of course! I’m with Jude in the respect that the more I dance, obviously the more I can drink, and the more I drink, the more I dance… Funny how that works.. Hmm…
Anyhow, so glad that you went out and had a great time! You need to do it more often!

Hell yes, I’m a dancer. The music depends on the bar. I’ve two-stepped all night at hole-in-the-wall honky tonks and spent hours shaking my ass at hip hop clubs. I don’t even mind techno that much and have had a great time with all my boys at the men’s club, too (because they’ll actually DANCE. My pet peeve is going to a club where no one dances). As long as it has a decent beat, I’ll dance.

You should see Andi and I in action. We are BADASS ! of course it has nothing to do with the Patron. I can adapt to most music anytime, any place. But I have to say I am not a fan of the techno. But give me some old school hip-hop and girl it’s on !
AND yes.. you need to get your sexy ass to NOLA … soon !
