This weekend I am in Nashville, TN visiting The Girlfriend’s daughter, so I’m sure I’ll have some great music to share. Or else some to make fun of.

Things I Love

In a previous blog – long, long, ago, on Diaryland, I wrote a A Love List. Holy hell, y’all. I’ve been blogging in some incarnation for more than 7 years!

Anyway, G wrote Things I Love, Vol. 3 and just writing my comment to that post made me happy! So, here I am writing, Things I Love.

The color yellow. A rainy day when I get to stay home. Freecycle. The Chihuahua. My new-ish sofa. The cool chairs I got from someone on freecyle. Free samples. Magazines. Used bookstores. Nature photography. My business cards for the new job. They are so cool! When I open a bag that’s been at my girlfriend’s house and the warm, homey smell of her house is on everything. That I have a girlfriend! That, thanks to the internet, I e-know people from all over the world and have great relationships with people I would never have otherwise met. Decorating books. Reading (and ignoring) diet books. Walking The Chihuahua. How The Chihuahua wags her tail all the time. Even when she’s sick, her tail is always wagging. She, my friends, is a great example of a good disposition and gratitude. Also, fierce attitude and diva-ness, which seem contradictory but aren’t.

Getting unexpected notes or letters or packages in the mail. Surprising people with my own small bits of goodness. Making people laugh. The look my girlfriend gets on her face sometimes – I can’t explain it but it makes me laugh. Irreverance. Daisies. Tulips. Greyhounds. Bags: totebags, purses, luggage, wallets, shopping bags. All of them. Paperbackswap.com.

Restaurants that have Caffeine-free diet Coke in the founation. Grilled cheese. (I will order grilled cheese every chance I get! Grilled cheese w/ tomato and fresh basil = yum!) Garage sales and thrift stores – even though I rarely buy anything. When I find something, though, it’s thrilling! I got my TV stand from a thrift store and, once, I got a Michael Kors bag from a thrift store. For $20. The clerk didn’t know who Michael Kors was!

Barbecue restaurants. The kind where you REALLY don’t want to know what goes on in the kitchen. Music. The Girlfriend’s satellite radio. Right now, I totally love “In Love With Your Booty.” House of Dereon jeans because they don’t gap even a little bit.

There. Things I Love. A few of them, anyway.

What do you love?

A friend got a question on her blog that she thought I oughta answer.

Here it is:

Random question from a random reader:

what do you think about women who are lesbians, who have never dated men, but then meet a great guy and start dating him?

(ahem) Completely hypothetical, of course

Interesting question.

So what do I think? I think if she meets a great guy and finds herself attracted to him, she should date him. I know many of you will adamantly disagree with that. Or perhaps publicly you’ll agree but if you knew Random Reader personally, you’d stop being friends with her if she dated a guy. You might even stop talking to her.

You know that’s crap, right?

Sexuality is fluid. For most of us, it’s not as static as we like to think.

I had my first date with a boy when I was 15, came out when I was 20. I was unusual, I think, in that I *like* men just fine. I even liked having sex with men. I am one of the fortunate minority of women who can have a fully vaginal orgasm, so the sex was fine. (At least as long as there were condoms involved because even then semen squicked me out.) I loved my high school and college boyfriends. I just was never IN love with them. Loved them like I love my friends.

My whole world changed when I fell in love with KKQ, who was my first girlfriend. I finally *got* it. All the romance and stuff. I would get so MAD at people who would act as if there was something wrong with me loving a woman. How dare they tell me who to love?

I feel the same way about lesbians who think it’s up to them to judge a friend for the gender of the person she loves.

As a woman who dates butches, I get why this could be all kinds of problematic for a butch. I truly do. No one wants to worry that their partner is going to leave them at all, let alone for a man. At the same time, a person can’t live their life to make everyone else happy.

So, Random Reader, if you’ve met someone who makes you happy, then I say date him. You might choose to be cautious about whom you tell, just in case it doesn’t work out and you find yourself dating women again. Some of us are bitches about that stuff.

(Not so) random readers, what do you think? How would you feel about a lesbian friend – or ex – who ended up dating men? Would you stay friends with them? Or would you feel betrayed? Or both?

Tonight, instead of working (which I should have been doing), I watched the Video Music Awards.

Taylor Swift won for Best Female Video. Apparently, Kanye was in a mood because he ran up on stage as she was making her acceptance speech, snatched the microphone out of her hand and said, “I’m sorry but B had one of the best videos of all time.” The crowd was more or less silent. Beyonce was laughing – but it was that sort of stunned “wtf are you doing?” laughing, not approval. Taylor kept her composure, left the stage and the show continued.

Towards the end of the evening, Beyonce won for Best Video.

She came out and told the audience how excited she was when she won her first VMA when she was 17 and she thought Taylor should have her moment. She invited Taylor out on stage so she could give her speech. Taylor had a sense of humor about it. She said, “Should we try this again?” then went on to make her thank yous.

I have been a fan of Beyonce’s since Destiny’s Child and even more so since I saw her in Carmen. I am an even bigger fan now. She is a lady in the very best sense of the word.

And I have bought my last Kanye West CD.

I’m watching More to Love on Fox. I watched 2 episodes before I couldn’t stand it anymore. Have you seen the show? It’s a “plus size” version of The Bachelor. I got annoyed at first because so many of the women were saying things like “I’ve never had a date because of my weight” and stuff like that. But that’s an aside. Back to the real post.

So Luke (the dude) and one of the girls is on a date. They go back to his room. There are candles, there are rose petals on the bed and there is champagne. Except for the champagne, what I think when I see that is not “Oh, romantic.” No, I think, “Trite.”

I had a dream the other night. I generally don’t remember my dreams so I’m surprised that I remember this one.

So, in the dream, I was getting ready for a date. Wanna know what I was wearing? Of course you do! I was wearing this totally gorgeous dress with a cropped cardigan over it and some great booties. I can’t find pictures of either the sweater or the boots. I think I dreamed about this dress because I’d just seen it on their website and loved it.

Anyway, the girl arrives to pick me and instead of bringing me flowers, she showed up with a gorgeous box. It was probably 6″ x 2″ and it was a fabric box, covered in a beautiful soft floral print that reminds me a lot of Monet. Actually, it reminded me a great deal of a Michael Kors dress from last year, but whatever.

In the box was the greatest first date gift ever. A box of Peeps!

That was romantic to me because it meant that she had paid attention to me and, at the very least, read my blog so she knew I liked them. AND she read enough not to be a cliche.

Tell me what is romantic to you? How would someone make your heart melt on a first date? If you have a partner, imagine! Or else tell me what she really did that made you melt.

Though the Bible has been used to hurt people all over the world, there are some things in it that are good and beautiful and useful.

Most people don’t realize that The Byrds’ song “Turn, Turn, Turn” is based on a Bible passage. Here it the passage it’s based on.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 A Time for Everything (New Living Translation)

There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.
A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to rebuild.
A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
A time to search and a time to lose. A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak up.
A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.

What time is it in your life? Is there something you should let go of but haven’t? Is there something you should do but haven’t? What is it time that you do?

Do you pray? I do. One of my other favorite Bible passages is 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Pray without ceasing.

One of my favorite Unity songs “Our Thoughts Are Prayers” is about that and the lyrics go:

Our thoughts are prayers
and we are always praying.
Our thoughts are prayers,
listen to what you’re saying.
Seek a higher consciousness,
a state of peacefulness,
and know that God is always there.
And every thought becomes a prayer.

I was fooling around on the internet today and I found a new blog.

A so-called Christian left a comment on her blog. An anti-gay comment, of course.

You should go read it right now.

I think we *should* publicly have a thing or two to say to people like this. If you don’t like the queers, stay away from us.

Oh, and should “Anonymous Hater” find her way here, I’d like to remind her that “Christian” means “christ-like” not “mindless parroting of drivel my priest/pastor tells me.” Jesus would have been down with the gays. If you don’t think so, go read the parts of the Bible that deal with Jesus’ life. Then do some historical research and find out who some of those people were. The gays of their time, so to speak.

It is people like Anonymous Hater who make me cautious to publicly identify as a Christian.

The reason I do is so that people will know we’re not all like that.
